Job Description

**Nurse/Cook/Housekeeper, Full-Time, Live-In (Local candidates only, please)**

Scheduled Days off: choice of Monday/Wednesday -OR- Wednesday/Friday.

General Description: Close-knit family seeks a full-time live-in nurse/cook for a whip-smart independent woman in her mid 80s. There is a part-time housekeeper who has worked for the family for almost 20 years. The current housekeeper will remain as a teammate for at least another year, before she may decide to retire. It is imperative that a potential candidate be at ease collaborating at all times with other family members and staff. There is no room in this household for territorial behavior or aggressive personalities.

It is important that the successful candidate has experience with an aging independent woman who prefers minimal help. It will take intelligence, charisma, and perseverance to ease the Principal’s desire for full independence and develop a type of household service best described as “invisible but always around”. This is a strict Kosher home, though staff will have relatively unrestricted use of the poolhouse kitchen. Principal is highly conservative with her use of electricity and the successful candidate will need to be accommodating of this.

Cooking: Simple, healthy, "clean" Kosher meal prep for a very light eater will be necessary two to three times a day. Principal prefers a 6am breakfast, light lunch, and early dinner. She will go to bed daily at 7pm.

Housekeeping/Maintenance: Light housekeeping will be a sizable part of this position. The 12,000sf home is very lightly used and requires regular care and cleaning for only one full-time resident (plus yourself). Principal’s bed should be made daily and changed twice weekly or as needed. Light hands-on maintenance such as changing light bulbs, replacing air filters, troubleshooting tech glitches, adjusting fountain and lighting timers, taking trash cans to curb and tidying patios and porches will be necessary. There is a contracted landscaping company and additional household staff nearby for more major repairs and maintenance.

Driving: Principal rarely leaves her home, but Caretaker will be her primary driver. Doctor’s appointments, weekly shopping trips (Costco Fridays), or short drives to visit nearby family members will be necessary.

Travel: Occasional travel such as a short family vacation or summers in Upstate New York may be necessary.

Wellness: It is important to the Family that the Principal has a positive, nourishing, and beautiful life. It is expected that nurse/caretaker will maintain an interest in the Principal’s overall health and wellness, acting as her advocate and fiduciary in all situations. The family desires a respectful/professional level of monitoring of the Principal’s sleep, eating, exercise and brain health, offering updates and recommendations to the Family as needed.

Pet Care: There is one friendly cat in the home and a large salt-water fish tank. Caretaker will oversee feeding, clean-up, attention, and grooming appointments for the cat and feeding the fish on a predetermined schedule. There is a vendor who oversees all other aspects of the fish tank.
