Job description 
 
Private family seeks an experienced House Manager to oversee the successful operation and maintenance of their seasonal residences in Maine and French West Indies. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
 
  • Complete oversight of residence staff; ensuring consistency of standards, procedures and services, staff scheduling and arrangements.
  • Maintaining all household calendar; scheduling household events, service repairs, other activities and providing prior notification to principals 
  • Anticipating culinary preferences and procurements
  • Coordinating with Chef & staff on planning and executing special dinners and events; experience with formal table service and high-end event planning a plus
  • Light cooking as needed
  • Coordinating with various staff members and vendors on maintenance and renovation projects
  • Overseeing training and supervision of residence staff
  • Approving invoices, household spending, timecards and PTO request for residence staff
  • Care for all custom furnishings, art & antiques
  • Serving as backup for residence staff
  • Assisting with any additional care of principals as requested
  • Handling special requests, errands and related duties as needed
  • Providing excellent service to principals and guests
 
This is a full-time, live-out position. Typical working week is 35-40 hours. Salary is generous but DOE. Staff accommodations are provided in Maine or other properties if assigned. 
 
Requirements
 
  • 4-year accredited degree from university/college or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience managing private residences and staff
  • Utmost sense of confidentiality and discretion 
  • Professional, polished and poised at all times
  • Must be knowledgeable with St.Barts French West Indies geography
  • Hands-on; serving as backup residence staff
  • Excellent references from current and previous employers
  • Exemplary management skills; adept in managing and supervising household staff 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, “hands on” as necessary
  • Strong command of English; communication skills both written and verbal 
  • Knowledge of complex house systems (lighting, heating and cooling, security)
  • Tech savvy with a demonstrated understanding of “smart home” systems
  • Positive attitude, high energy, strong work ethic and an attention to detail
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational and time-management skills
  • Flexibility in schedule with availability to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport
  • Valid US work authorization
