We seek a mature, resourceful live-in housekeeper, houseman and estate manager for a semi-retired gentleman just outside of Boston.
The successful professional will be hands-on and detail-oriented. Daily duties include housekeeping, laundry, valet chores, shopping, and occasional light cooking consistent with ability. The candidate must maintain impeccable and fastidious housekeeping habits, show initiative, exhibit good organization skills and ability to work independently, and will coordinate and work cooperatively with assistance of a regular part-time live-out housekeeper. We seek someone who has broad household knowledge who can help us keep the home in top condition by recognizing areas indoors and out that need attention and by helping take care of them (either by taking direct action — tightening a door knob, for example — or by finding appropriate tradesmen). Ideally, the candidate will have quiet, home-based hobbies and interests and some area of expertise or specialized knowledge that enhances the household. The 6,000-square-foot residence includes a natatorium and sits on about two acres (landscaped). The residence includes a private suite for the candidate including bedroom, large sunny living area, kitchenette and full bath with whirlpool tub.
The candidate should have demonstrable experience as a live-in domestic or in a closely related field and desire a long-term professional position for himself. Verifiable references from previous employers are essential. Computer literacy expected. Basic understanding of how things work (mechanical, electrical, etc.) is also helpful. Heavy lifting, moving lawn furniture etc. is required on occasion.
Housekeeping duties vary and include, but are not limited to, general housekeeping (running the vacuum, making up bedrooms and baths, dusting, tidying, laundry, etc.), tackling a project once or twice per week, organizing, occasional light cooking, detail cleaning on a regular basis and automobile maintenance (cleaning, fueling, service visits). Other duties include supervision of contractors and tradesmen and assisting in entertaining guests and providing hospitality, including serving at dinner and cocktail parties. The ideal candidate will first and foremost possess superior skills as housekeeper, then, second, estate manager, and third, cook. The workday is normally 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on call, with personal time permitted during the day.
We offer a professional and detailed contract: Typically two days off per week, a generous health insurance allowance, paid time off, retirement plan, tuition reimbursement and local use of a vehicle. Compensation offered $60,000-$80,000 plus room and board will be commensurate with experience.
