Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced House Manager for a semi-formal, culturally focused home. The House Manager will oversee the day-to-day operation of this busy home in downtown Toronto. The position is hands-on, requiring an energetic applicant with an excellent work ethic and a commitment to maintaining the standards of the home. Flexibility with hours and occasional evening or weekend work will be required. Some travel to France may be required but the position will be based in Toronto.

Job Requirements

Primary Responsibilities:
- Uphold household standards including: managing the cleanliness of the home; daily detailing; and ensuring proper care of household furnishings, objects, and surfaces
- Oversee a team of domestic staff, including:
o Work alongside the Property Manager to oversee regular household maintenance, renovations, and projects
o Managing and training housekeeping staff
o Some cooking, as required, to back up the cook
o Some care of Principal’s wardrobe and basic household laundry, as required, to back up the laundress
- Oversee household security and safety, and ensure that protocols are maintained by all staff
- Manage two off-site, and one on-site wine cellars, including ordering wines and maintaining the cellar database
- Maintain the organization of an extensive library
- Update all household manuals as required
- Management of all household inventories
- Organization of storage areas in the home and offsite storage
- Event planning, execution, and logistics, as well as performing front of house for social events
- Simple day to day floral arrangements
- Installation of holiday décor
- Maintenance of automobiles
- Assisting in packing and unpacking for travel
- Answering the front door, greet guests and visitors, answer telephone, and take messages
- Assist Principal in management of second property in France

The Successful Applicant:
- Will work well in a team and maintain a collegial relationship with other staff, trades, and professional contractors (florists, interior designers, etc.)
- Will respect confidentiality and privacy of the Principal, will exercise diplomacy and discretion
- Has experience working in a semi-formal residence
- Should be comfortable working with computers, household technology and mechanical systems
- Must have a valid driver’s license and passport
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- References required and the ability to speak French will be considered an asset.
